The Earth is drowning in plastic. More than 40% of produced plastic is used just once and then dumped, according to National Geographic, and as of 2015, more than 6.9 billion tons of plastic waste had been generated out of which 9% of that was recycled, 12% was incinerated, and 79% accumulated in landfills or environment, polluting the very same sources used for providing drinking water but also our whole environments.
The changes have to start somewhere and what better way to begin but from ourselves. The small first step, on the path of our sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility, is disposing of single-use plastic cups.
Instead of plastic, we have put out branded paper cups with a message “Be a part of the solution, not the pollution” with a limited number so people will take special care of them.
The paper cups are expected to fully replace the plastic ones by the end of this month.
In our offices in Koper, the paper cups have already replaced plastic ones two months ago, and now with Zagreb, we’re about to exterminate the plastic cups altogether.
With this move, we are not just anticipating the European parliament’s ban on single-use plastics which is to come into force by 2021 in all EU member states, but also taking part in creating a more sustainable future for all of us.
